When I first started, the shelter was located in several trailers behind the Charleston County Jail, not a very inviting place for people to adopt animals, much less the conditions for the animals were not ideal. After much fundraising, the new adoption center is a dream come true. Over 30,000 sf! In 2007, 12,000 animals came through the shelter. I am not just talking dogs and cats people, but birds, snakes, hamsters, rabbits and even horses! That comes to an average of 37 animals a day brought in due to strays, owners can’t care for anymore or choose not to, owners abandoning them and even torture. The animal society gets the animals healthy again and finds the animal a good, loving home.
If you are interested in helping a great cause, you can donate the following items to your local spca, or send them to me and I will take them!
Just to name a few: shoe boxes, kitty litter, cat and dog treats, cat and dog toys, tennis balls and towels for the animals to lay on.
How can you say no to these sweet faces?! Below are some pictures of the rabbits and doggies that are currently looking for a good home. I also attached a picture of the new shelter. It opens officially March 8th.
